Jack L. Clark

Jack L. Clark, 84, of Lewistown, passed away at 3:02 p.m. Sunday, November 23, 2025 at Graham Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born January 15, 1941 in Canton, the son of Russell and Pearl (Woods) Clark. He married Peggy Stephens on March 22, 1964 in Livingston, MT. She survives with two daughters, Julie (Chuck) Hudspath of Lewistown, and Jennifer (Eric) White of Forest City; eight grandchildren, Emma and Caleb Hudspath, Collin, Evan, and Maia White, Krystal (Nate) Weber, Taylor (Jessica) Clark, and Tanner Clark; four great-grandchildren, Reina, Sloane, and Dax Weber, and Graham Clark; one sister, Sheila Kimble of Lewistown; two nephews, Chuck (Paula) Weaver and Andrew (Kayla) Hanser; three nieces, Tammi (Bryan) Reed, Jeanette (Eric) Radosevich, and Amy (Shawn) Hanser; and his brother- and sister-in-law, Tom and Denise Hanser. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Timothy Clark; one brother, Steve Clark; and one sister, Shirley Weaver. Jack attended Mt. Pleasant Grade School and Lewistown High School. He continued his education at the University of Illinois (B. S. in Animal Science), Montana State University (M. S. in Animal Nutrition), and the University of Missouri (PhD in Animal Husbandry). He began his career as an associate professor of animal husbandry and supervisor of the low-level radiation lab at the University of Missouri. Jack then worked at Farr Better Feeds in Garden City, KS, as a beef cattle nutritionist, before returning to the family farm in 1978 where he raised cattle, corn, soybeans, and hay. He was a member of the Lewistown United Methodist Church, Fulton County Farm Bureau, University of Montana Alumni, and University of Missouri Alumni. He served on the Lewistown Community High School Board, the Fulton County 4-H Council, and was a charter member of the Fulton County Extension & 4-H Foundation. He previously served as a Director for the Fulton County Fair and Racing Association, a Director on the Prairie Power Board, and was serving on the Spoon River Electric Board, where he had been a Director since September of 1998. Jack considered Montana his second home, where he enjoyed taking drives in the mountains and fly fishing with his in-laws. Jack and Peggy loved travelling with family and friends. Even after retirement, Jack kept himself busy. He rarely missed an event that his grandchildren participated in, whether it was football or FFA, cross country or barrel racing. When not travelling, you could probably find him having coffee with friends. Even after retirement, he spent many hours riding in the combine or hauling grain. Jack was able to find a connection with everyone he met. He valued education and encouraged others in their educational pursuits. His favorite part of being an associate professor at the University of Missouri was mentoring his graduate students, leading to many lifelong relationships. A private family graveside service was held at Apple Cemetery with Pastor Shane Smith officiating. A celebration of life will be held on January 17, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Lewistown United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lewistown United Methodist Church or Spoon River Electric Foundation to be used for student scholarships. Condolences may be made at henrylange.com.
