Edwin “Ed” Jonathan Oest

Edwin “Ed” Jonathan Oest, 75, of Havana, passed away at his home at 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026. He was born on January 20, 1951 in Canton to Edward and Dortha (Slaight) Oest. He married Nancy Welker on February 12, 1999 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ed is survived by his wife, Nancy Oest, of Havana; children, Jason (Holly Gudat) Oest, Jimmy Oest, Jon (Staisha) Oest, and Emma (Michael) Coleman; six grandchildren; mother-in-law, Verla Welker; and several cousins and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rick Oest; and sister, Linda Oest. Ed worked for the Department of Natural Resources as Site Superintendent at Anderson Lake until his retirement in 2012. After 42 years of service, he became a very familiar face around Anderson Lake and the campgrounds. Ed was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and mushroom hunting in his free time. He liked riding his side by side around his property and collecting cars. He also enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Bears. Ed enjoyed visiting and never knew a stranger. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana with visitation one hour prior to the services. A celebration of life and burial will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Ed’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or donor’s choice of organization.
