Richard J. Kammeyer

Richard J. Kammeyer, 71, of Mason City passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at Mason City Area Nursing Home after a short battle with cancer. He was born on May 24, 1952 in Urbana to Alvin and Evelyn (Grizzle) Kammeyer. On November 12, 1972 in San Jose he married Annice Canada. Richard is survived by his wife of 51 years Annice Kammeyer of Mason City, 3 children: Elizabeth Kammeyer of Pekin, Adam Kammeyer of Morton, and Katie Redman of Mason City, 3 grandchildren: Edyn Kammeyer, Levi Redman and Piper Redman, 2 brothers: Darrel (Bonnie) Kammeyer of Manito, Bruce Kammeyer of Bloomington, 2 brothers-in-law, 3 sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Kathy Hintz, brother-in-law Gary Hintz, sister- in-Law Vicki Kammeyer and 3 brothers-in-law. Richard was a 1970 graduate of San Jose High School and served 6 years in the Illinois Air National Guard. He farmed for 30 years and then drove a truck before retiring in 2014, after which he continued to work part-time helping a local farmer. He loved motorcycles and taking trips with Annice on the back of the bike to search out the best burger joint or curviest road. In July 2023, they celebrated hitting 100,000 miles on their 2000 Harley Davidson FLHT. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Manito. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 15 at 10:30 a.m. with an hour of visitation prior to the service at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Manito, burial to follow at Green Hill Cemetery in San Jose. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 14 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home Mason City. Memorial contributions may be made to Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation “Ride for Kids” or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City is in charge of the arrangement.
