Eric D. Tarvin

Eric D. Tarvin, 60, of Canton passed away May 21, 2026 at his residence. He was born July 7, 1965 at Havana, the son of Gary and Carolyn “Sue” (Hamm) Tarvin. He was preceded in death by his parents. Eric grew up in Palos Heights and later relocated downstate to Fulton County. Surviving are his son Eric (Reeny) Tarvin of Carterville and one step daughter Jessica Marie (Wyatt) Underwood of West Frankfort, step siblings Lissa and Gary Tarvin of California. He is also survived by an aunt, uncle, many cousins and a lifelong best friend who was like a brother, John (Sheila) Berens of Manteno. Eric was a 1983 graduate of Brother Rice Catholic High School in downtown Chicago. He was an integral part of the 1981 6A state football championship, a historic title that was held for 44 consecutive years. In addition, Eric still holds IHSA athletic records in football and baseball. Eric had completed the necessary hours for post retirement within the carpenters union. Prior to losing his mother, he finished his nursing degree. He later worked as a registered nurse and director of nursing. Eric was an avid reader of anything medical and scientific. He enjoyed culinary and concocting new recipes in his free time, but above all, he loved his family and friends. Eric’s family and friends are grateful to know he is at peace. Graveside services will be held Sunday, June 14 at Sheldon’s Grove Cemetery, 2:00 pm with Josh Liggin from Evangelical Church of Canton officiating.
