Ethel Marie Hill

Ethel Marie Hill, 81, of Kilbourne passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving children and family, at her home, Saturday, November 11, 2023. Ethel was born August 3, 1942 in Chandlerville to George Gideon Witherell and Alice Marie (Boehm) Witherell. She was truly the middle child with four older and four younger siblings. Ethel enjoyed spending time with her family, attending church at Kilbourne Baptist with her sister and friends, and she was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist church. She also enjoyed gospel and country music and watching Cardinal baseball games with her dear friend Doris Sisson. In past years she was a caregiver for families in and around Mason County. Ethel is survived by her children: Sharon “Toot” Nall (Thomas), Denise Johnson, Tim Hill (Leslie), David “Bub” Hill, Jeanne Holt (Nathan), Lisa Richards (Lynn), Peggy Ruiz (Sergio), special children: Jamie Dearing and Kim Ash Larson, and her spouse Gilbert’s children: Suzanne Mesojednik, Brenda Wankel, Terry Hill, and Ricky Hill. Ethel cherished numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings: Don Witherell (Alice), Emma Smith, Mary Dick (Larry), Melvin Witherell (Sarah), and several much-loved nieces and nephews. Ethel was predeceased by her parents, spouse Gilbert Hill, infant daughter Carol Ann, and several Hill relatives. She was also predeceased by her beloved siblings and spouses: Bob (wife Aileen) Witherell, Margie Otto (June), Rose Shults (Buster), and Bertha Hughes (Lloyd); and half siblings: Mabel (Witherell) Hardinger, Clifford Witherell, Betty (Witherell) Williams, and Ilean (Witherell) Garman, and several other relatives. Visitation and services: Services will be held Thursday, November 16 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church 5196 N. Co Rd 1500 E., Kilbourne, IL 62655. The family will receive visitors from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by a sermon by Pastor Terry Hill. The family request that you dress as you wish. Interment with prayers will follow at the Kilbourne Cemetery. The Mt. Zion ladies will host a luncheon at the Kilbourne Firehouse following interment. Memorial donations may be made in Ethel’s name to Gentiva Hospice, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or Cancer Research. Online condolences can be left for her family at www.hurleyfh.com.
