Nancy VanEtten

Nancy VanEtten, 99, of Petersburg passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Mason City Area Nursing Home in Mason City. She was born on May 26, 1924, in Chesterfield the daughter of George Henry and Jesse (Murray) Lee. She married Glen VanEtten on December 24, 1946, in Havana. Nancy is survived by her children, Dale (Pat) VanEtten of Petersburg, Pam (Brad) Armbrust of Easton, Heidi Scaggs also of Petersburg; grandchildren, Angie (Patrick) Scheina, Lee (Zach) Pruitt, Erin (Wade) Parsley, Allison (Rachel) Scaggs, Madison Scaggs, Mark (Ashlee) VanEtten, Tara (Troy) Mayhew, Scott VanEtten; and great grandchildren, Kate Scheina, Claire and Dane Parsley, Stella and Sidney VanEtten, Chandler and Carter VanEtten, and Elynn and Livia Pruitt. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters, 1 brother, a son in law, Rick Scaggs, her son, Sidney VanEtten, and her husband, Glen on September 29, 2016. Nancy graduated from Havana High School in 1942 and worked as a telephone operator until she was married. She was a lifelong farm wife of both Mason and Menard counties and a devoted mother to her children. She always told people her greatest achievement in life was raising her family. She was an avid card player her whole life and spent many years playing Bridge with her friends. She was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church in Petersburg. Music held a special place in Nancy’s heart and soul. She was always singing or whistling a tune. Nancy and her husband were both avid Chicago Bulls fans, knowing every player’s name and watching every single game. Nancy also enjoyed gardening. A visitation will be held for Nancy on Thursday, October 26 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 27, at 10:00 a.m. at the Central Presbyterian Church in Petersburg. Pastor Ryan Edgecombe will officiate. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Memorials may be made to the Central Presbyterian Church or the Mason City Area Nursing Home Activity Fund.
