Anna Katherine Simmering

Anna Katherine Simmering, 101, of Manito, formerly of Havana, passed away at Unity Point – Proctor, in Peoria, at 4:20 a.m., on Tuesday, October 26. She was born April 25, 1920, in Oglesby to George and Anna (Curran) Stuart. She married William Timinsky. He preceded her in death at the Battle of the Bulge, during WWII. She later married George Simmering on September 12, 1952, in Cedar Hill, Missouri. He preceded her in death on July 31, 1990. Mrs. Simmering is survived by four children: Patricia Timinsky-Derks, of Schofield, Wisconsin, Billie Jean (Lee) Timinsky-Garman, of Manito, Kim (Patty Walker) Simmering, of Edwardsville, Kent (Kathy) Simmering, of Port Orchard, Washington; six grandchildren: Jamie Vance, Janelle Silberberg, Rene Braun, Michelle Kuhn, Brad Derks, Mark Derks; eighteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, eleven siblings, one son, Kevin Scott Simmering, son-in-law, Larry Derks, one grandson and one great-grandson. Mrs. Simmering was a member of Havana United Methodist Church, where she had been a member of several women’s groups. She was active in the Red Hat Society, VFW Ladies Auxiliary #6408, in Havana, as well as in a card club. She had served on the Peoria Journal Star board for several years. She enjoyed quilting, boating, painting and bowling. Visitation will be held at 1st United Methodist Church in Havana, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, October 30. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., also at the church. Rev. Carol Stufflebeam will officiate. Burial will follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Memorial contributions may be made to 1st United Methodist Church. Online memorial messages may be left for the family at www.hurleyfh.com. The Simmering Family requests that masks are worn during visitation and for the funeral service. Hurley Funeral Home in Havana is in charge of arrangements.
