Judy Faye O’Grady

Judy Faye O’Grady, 71, of Havana, passed away at 6:15 p.m., on Thursday, September 23 at OSF-St. Francis Medical Center, in Peoria, with her family by her side. She was born July 18, 1950, in Hickman, Kentucky, the daughter of Mable and Dee Scheland. She married, the love of her life, Rodney O’Grady on July 12, 1972. He survives. Judy is survived by her husband, Rodney, of Havana; four children: Corey (Tara) Scheland of Havana, Dennis (Robin) O’Grady of Creve Coeur, Stacey (Bob) Cooper, of Havana, Amy (companion – Justin Behymer) of Havana, and Blake (Aubri) Scheland, of Havana; eleven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and three siblings: Roma (Dave) McBride, Roger Scheland and Gary (Brenda) Scheland, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Donald Scheland. Judy was a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved to give Cubs fans a hard time. She was a youth league bowling coach for over twenty years at the Paddle Wheel in Havana. Her love of bowling was evident, as she could be found on several different team league nights throughout the week for the last fifty years. Judy’s number one passion was her family. She was dedicated to taking care of anything that anyone needed through the day, from letting our dogs out to running us to doctors appointments and anything we needed. She was the most selfless, giving person, whose loss cannot be put into words by this family. She was also known for her brutal honesty. If you knew our mom, you know that she was going to tell you “like it is,” whether you wanted to hear it or not. Judy worked at Dairy Queen in Havana, for many years before starting with Oney’s at the service desk. After many years there, she moved on to the Havana High School cafeteria, where she retired. She loved her job there and still would talk about “her kids” that would come in. Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana, from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m., on Tuesday, September 28. Funeral services will follow the visitation, beginning at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery, in Havana. Memorial contributions may be made to Mason County Pets Without Parents, or to the O’Grady Family, to fund Christmas presents for the residents at Havana Health Care. Online memorial messages may be left for the family at www.hurleyfh.com. One final note that needs to be shared: Judy always said “You know, I hate people.” So, if you knew her, we’d like to think that she liked you as well, but we can’t guarantee anything.
