Ronny G. “Ron” Workman, 76, of Havana passed away on Monday, August 16 at 7:41 a.m. at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice House in Peoria. He was born on April 14, 1945 in Decatur to Gerald F. and Mary Ellen (Butler) Workman. Ron is survived by his sister-in-law, Sally Workman, nephews, Chris (Jennifer) Workman and Brandon (Asja) Workman, and niece, Angela Mullins. He is also survived by great-nieces and nephews, Alex, Spencer, Abigail, Shane, Makayla, Annalija, and Jordan. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Terry Workman. Ron was a servant of God, his family, country and was dedicated to working for the Veterans in the Havana area and their families. Ron was a passionate St. Louis Cardinals fan, card player, and a stamp and coin collector. He was known at family gatherings for his pecan pie and deviled eggs, and everyone looked forward to visiting with him. Ron served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1967-1969. He served as VFW Post 6408 Commander for 10 years and was the first local Commander to be awarded All American Post in 70 years. He received numerous awards and distinctions including the Vietnam Service Medal, Presidential Citation, five Bronze Stars, VFW All American Post three times, and VFW All State Post six times. He also served as VFW District Chaplain and was a VFW Legacy Life Member, VFW Life Member, and VFW Post 6408 Life Member. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 19 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Havana, with a visitation one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Rev. Carol Stufflebeam will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Military detail will be provided by VFW Post #6408 and American Legion Post #138.
