Beverly Jo Claussen

Beverly Jo Claussen, 83, of Oakford passed away on Wednesday, June 2 at Aperion Care Jacksonville at 12:30 p.m. surrounded by her family. She was born on August 4, 1937 in Cass County to Howard “Mike” and Bernadine (Jaeger) Severns. She married Powell David “Pete” Claussen in Oakford on October 15, 1955. Jo is survived by her husband, Pete; five children, David Claussen of Petersburg, Lisa (Mike Watson) Cowin of Kilbourne, Marty (Karen) Claussen of Oakford, Bret (Barbara) Claussen of Morganton, NC, Howie (Sandy O’Brien) Claussen of Springfield; a niece Pam (Dennis) Stevens of Petersburg; niece Coleen Koch; three nephews, Ronn (Cindy) Claussen, Cliff (Karen) Claussen, and Tim Claussen; 16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister; and two brothers. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Bryon Claussen; one brother; and one sister. Jo was a member of the Oakford United Methodist Church. She worked as a bookkeeper for Claussen Machine Shop that she owned and operated with her husband for over 50 years. She later worked for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources before retiring, and had served on the Oakford BLS for 18 years. Her pride and joy were her family, including her grandchildren, and great grandchildren whom she enjoyed spending time with and loved very much. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, being outdoors, and spending time with her friends. Jo and Pete traveled many miles on bus trips across the United States and Canada. A funeral service will be held for Jo on Monday, June 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m.to 11:00 a.m. also at the funeral home. Pastor George Garnot will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Petersburg. Memorials may be made to the Oakford United Methodist Church.
