Evalena Alvena Dierker

Evalena Alvena Dierker, 94, of Manito, passed away at 7:20 p.m., on Sunday, May 30. She was born October 22, 1926, in Havana, to George and Alma (Kreiling) Glick. She married Frederick W. Dierker at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, in Havana, on April 1949. He preceded her in death on September 13, 1992. Mrs. Dierker is survived by two daughters: Susan M. Dierker-Becker, of Manito, and Diane (Bob) Onken, of Edwardsville; two grandchildren: Heidi Penney and Scott Onken; as well as two great-grandchildren: Emmett and Easton Onken. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister: Dorothy Mae Kreiling. Mrs. Dierker was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, in Havana, where she had been a member of the Ladies Aide. She was active in 4-H in Mason County for over 60 years. Because of her efforts with 4-H, she was given a Leadership Award at the Illinois State Fair. She was also an avid reader and member of the Forman Library Club. She was a member of Home Extension and had enjoyed traveling with Irrigated Growers. She enjoyed working with people. She had worked at Gene’s Grocery Store, Hot Stuff Pizzeria and operated a video store and laundromat, in Manito. Funeral services will be held at Maas-Hurley Funeral Home, in Manito, on Friday, June 4, at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow the services at Laurel Hill Cemetery, in Havana. Rev. Matthew Berndt will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to 4-H, or Forman Library.
