Virginia Elizabeth Barrett, 85, of Havana passed away at her home on Monday, May 3 at 7:33 a.m. She was born on September 3, 1935 in Sylvas to Alvin and Hazel (Bay) Stahr. She married Robert George Barrett in East Moline on June 15, 1958. He preceded her in death on December 29, 1994. Mrs. Barrett is survived by her children, Robert (Barbara) Barrett of Jacksonville, Charles (Amy) Barrett of Tampa, Florida, and Elizabeth (John) Baker of Browning, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and her sister, Joyce Ginn of Macomb. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, and granddaughters, Lyric Barrett and Holly Otto. Mrs. Barrett was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She attended East Moline High School and graduated from ISU with a degree in Education. She worked as an English and Journalism teacher and a librarian in Limestone and Manito, and then at Havana High School for 35 years. She was also the videographer for the sports teams and taught at Spoon River College for many years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Genealogy Society, Retired Teachers of Illinois, the Altar Guild, Ladies Aide, Mason County Farm Bureau, and Women Farmers of Mason County. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana, with a visitation one hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana.
