Gladys M. “Mert” Sathoff
Gladys M. “Mert” Sathoff, 91, of Atterberry passed away on Sunday, November 8 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home. She was born on February 7, 1929 the daughter of Henry and Annabel (Dietrich) Golliher. She married Edward L. Sathoff on July 28, 1946 in Tallula. He survives. Mercedes is also survived by one daughter, Susan (Dennis) Walker of Havana; one son, Edward Wayne (Esther) Sathoff of Athens; six grandchildren, Erika (Phil) Foster, Brian (Diana) Thompson, Charles (Nicole) Sathoff, Joshua Sathoff, Kimberly (Sam) Susko, and John (Chelsea) Sathoff. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Ronald Eugene (Wendy) Sathoff; one brother, Francis “Whistle” Golliher; and one sister, Joan Bale. Mercedes was a member of the Atterberry Community Baptist Church. She was an excellent cook who enjoyed canning, cross stitching, playing board games and cards, fishing, and bowling. Mercedes and Edward celebrated 74 happy years of marriage in July. A visitation will be held for Mercedes on Monday, November 16 at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.. A private family graveside service will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Pastor Abraham Mogerman officiating. Memorials may be made to St. Jude. Due to COVID restrictions, masks will be required for all in attendance. Also, the funeral home will be limited to a 25 person capacity during visitation. I went to high school with Gene and Wendy; my father grew up with Ed in Atterberry. I wish to extend my deepest condolences to Mert’s family.
