Kathryn “Kathy” V. Dye
Kathryn “Kathy” V. Dye, 70, of Havana passed away at her home on Tuesday, March 17, at 11:45 a.m. She was born on January 15, 1950 in Avon, Illinois to Warren Clark and Kathryn (Bishop) Sperry. She married Gary R. Dye on December 27, 1970 at the 1st Baptist Church in Havana. He preceded her in death on March 26, 2017. Kathy is survived by her son Mitchell (Jennifer) Dye of Havana, grandchildren Jessica, Ethan, Owen, Ryan, and Lila Dye, all of Havana, and siblings Mary Ann (Jim) Nelson of Geneseo, Jim Sperry of Bushnell, and Stacy Parker of Las Vegas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and infant son Robert Anthony Dye. Kathy was an honorary member of the Navy and a lifetime member of VFW Post #6408 and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She worked as a caregiver for most of her life. It was nothing for her to drop everything to take care of her own family when they were in need. She loved spending time with her grandkids and family and going to the movies, both by herself and with the grandkids. Traveling was her passion. It would be nothing for her to jump in the car and drive somewhere, whether it was another town or another state. She visited every state at least once in her life, but her favorite was Alaska. For the last twenty years she would take her father and husband to all of the WWII USS Hancock and USS Chenango reunions. Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 20, at 2 p.m. at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Rev. Abraham Mogerman will officiate. Memorial donations can be made in Kathy’s name to her family or VFW Post # 6408. Online condolences can be left for the family at www.hurleyfh.com. Hurley Funeral Home in Havana is in charge of arrangements.
