Roy V. Montag

Roy V. Montag, age 83, of Manito, passed away at UnityPoint Health Pekin on Sunday, September 2, 2018. Roy was born to the late Virgil Adolf and Hazel Cleo (Littleton) Montag on October 20, 1934 in Quincy. He married Linda Sue Kirtley on December 13, 1958 in Peoria, and they celebrated 49 years of marriage before her passing on July 26, 2008. He was also preceded in death by a sister, two great-great-granddaughters, and one nephew. Roy is survived by his daughters, Becky (Randy) Allen of Quincy, Bonita (Larry) Hardisty of Manito, Belinda (Mark) Berry of Pekin, and Bronda Rogge of Pekin; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Wilda (Bruce) Heilman of Spring Bay; his long-time companion, Pat Arrowood; and several nieces and nephews. Roy enjoyed Westerns, NASCAR, range shooting, martial arts, Little League Baseball, mechanics, reading, and going to any and every event his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved in. He was very much a family man and had a zest for life. He served in the Navy for 4 years, enlisting when he was 17. He worked at Caterpillar for 35 years before retiring as a fire inspector, he was a Special on the East Peoria Fire Department for many years, a Lieutenant on the Manito Police Department for 14 years, and was a semi-truck driver for 10 years. Roy retired 3 separate times before he retired for the last time, and enjoyed spending time with his family for the remainder of his life. A graveside service for Roy will be held on Friday, September 7 at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held the evening before, Thursday, September 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Maas-Hurley Funeral Home in Manito. Roy had many loves throughout his life, so memorials may be made to any charity of the donors choice. Online condolences may be left at www.hurleyfh.com.
