Mary Virginia Thomas
Mary Virginia Thomas, 80, of Petersburg, formerly of Kilbourne, passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018, at Memorial Medical Center. Mary was born on June 24, 1937, in Ewing, MO; the daughter of the late Virgil and Elsie (Decker) Woodworth. She married Kenneth Thomas in Ewing, MO on June 24, 1960; he preceded her in death in 2004. Mary worked for 32 years as a teacher in Iowa and Texas, and ended her career here in Illinois. Mary was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Petersburg, National Retired Teacher Association, Mason County Retired Teachers, and Mason County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and sight-seeing. Mary is survived by her daughters; Susan (Davin) Keith of Sierra Vista, AZ, Rachel (Roger) Tyler of Pleasant Plains, and Jessica (Karl) Danner of Petersburg, eight grandchildren, her siblings; Charles Woodworth of Canton, MO, Geraldine Dehner of Hannibal, MO, Norma Taylor of Bull Shoals, AK, as well as numerous nieces nephews and cousins. She was also preceded in death by a brother Robert Woodworth, a sister Lola Miller, and a granddaughter Jenelle Tyler. The family will receive guests on Tuesday, June 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana as well as the following morning from 9 to 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Petersburg. A service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held June 20, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Petersburg at 10 am. Pastor Rob Gallion will officiate. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Easton.
