Lela Louise Snyder, 81, of Palm Springs, CA passed away on Friday, April 27, 2018. She was born in Oakford on January 3, 1937. She was preceded in death by her father, Harvey “Bruz” Senter, her mother, Freida (Skaggs) Caldwell and her stepfather, Burdette Caldwell. She was also preceded by her husband, Ernest “Jim” Snyder on December 11, 2005. Lela was a graduate of Havana High School and was employed as a waitress for most of her working career. She lived in the Southwest (New Mexico and Nevada) from 1981 until 1996 before returning back to Illinois, where she lived in Springfield. In 2010 she moved to Palm Springs, CA where she spent her remaining years enjoying the warm desert weather. Lela loved to read, travel and spend time with her “people” (aka family). She is survived by her three children: Larry Hagney, Hemet, CA, Gary (John Szafirowski) Hagney, San Diego, CA and Sharon Nelch, Springfield; two grandchildren: Nicholas Hagney and Alexandra (Nathan) Carver; and two great granddaughters: Aislyn Doll and Clara Carver. She is also survived by her sister Linda (Hank) Keene and stepson, Scott (Amy) Snyder. Graveside services will be held for Lela and Jim on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, Petersburg, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Havana Methodist Church beginning at 12:15 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
