James Leroy Griffie, 76, of Chandlerville, passed away at 7:07 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Mason District Hospital in Havana. He was born January 16, 1942 in rural Mason County, Illinois, to Paul E. and Pauline I. (McDaniel) Griffie. He married Donna Darlene Harris on January 18, 1963 in Beardstown. She survives. Mr. Griffie is survived by his wife, Donna Darlene, of Chandlervlle; one son, Michael Lee Griffie of Chandlerville; one daughter, Nikki (Allan) Rhinehart of Chandlerville; three grandchildren: David Rhinehart, Isaac Rhinehart and Kegan Griffie; three great-grandchildren: Addyson Griffie, Carter Griffie and Jackson Pringle, as well as one sister, Mary (Eugene “Huey) Eilers of Chandlerville, niece, Lori Eilers, nephew, Brad (Chris) Eilers, both of Chandlerville and four great-nieces and nephews: Landon, Kyson, Jaelyn and Mariah Eilers. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Griffie was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church, where he had served as Trustee, Treasurer, Song Leader, Sunday School Teacher and Maintenance Man over many years. He worked for Adkins Farm Inc. for 49 years. He enjoyed archeology and liked searching for Indian relics. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spending time with his family. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, near Chandlerville, on Saturday, April 7, 2018, with visitation one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow the services at Bethel Cemetery. Rev. Greg Holliger and Rev. Tom McMurtry will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church.
