Maxine Eleanor Parrott Sutton

Maxine Eleanor Parrott Sutton of Oakford went to meet her Lord Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. peacefully, in her home. Maxine was born on November 4, 1917 in Havana, and celebrated her 100th birthday this year. She was the sixth of six children born to Martin Dudley (Polly) and Grace Miller Parrott. She married Willard Jesse Sutton November 9, 1935 in Saidora. They celebrated 59 years together before his death in 1994. They farmed for many years and Maxine was also head cook at the Oakford Grade School. She is remembered for great cooking and her friendly disposition. Maxine and Willard were avid fishermen. After working all day, they would head for the fishing hole and fish until the sun set, then return home and clean fish before preparing supper. Some funny stories were told to their family about these fishing trips. Maxine, above all loved her family and loved cooking for them. In her younger days, Maxine was on a women’s softball team, playing first base. She was a member of the Kilbourne Baptist Church, where she served as treasurer and also prepared communion. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Willard; her son, Willard Dale; her parents; three sisters; Velda Greenhalgh, Vernice Langenbach, Dorothy Parrott; and two brothers, William Parrott and Cecil Parrott. She is survived by one daughter, Polly (Jim) Harris of Wake Forest, NC; daughter-in-law, Sally (Norm) Helton of Oakford; seven grandchildren, Tammy (John) Doggett and Mike (Julie) Sutton of Petersburg; David (Rebecca) Sutton and B.J. Sutton of Oakford; Gail Duke, Teresa Harris, and Eric Harris of Wake Forest, NC; 22 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren; Sisters-in-law, Emma Jean (Sutton) Boeker (Gene-deceased); Marguerite (Hollis) Sutton (Nathan-deceased); many nieces and nephews. A Funeral service officiated by Pastor Daniel Yielding will be held at the Hurley Funeral Home, Petersburg, on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. The family will receive guests at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
