Margaret Spilker

Margaret L. Spilker, 97, formerly of Havana, passed away at 12:55 a.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin where she had resided for the last six years. Born on March 29, 1920 in Havana, Illinois to Howard F. and Mabel L. (Clanin) Dillon; she married Alvin G. Spilker in January 18, 1947 in Virginia, Illinois. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1980 in Iowa City, IA. Also preceding in death were her brothers, Howard, Bill, and Michael Dillon; her sister, Mary Lou Meyer and her sons-in-law, John Dowell and Glenn Hough. Surviving are her children, Bonnie Dowell of Pekin, Alvin H.W. (Lorenda) Spilker of Lewistown and Priscilla L. Hough of Havana; grandsons, John T. Dowell of Pekin, Jim Hough of Peoria, Steven Hough of Havana and Ryan Hough of Liverpool; great granddaughters, Emmaline, Madeline, and Karli; her brother, Alonzo P. Dillon of Havana; a special cousin, Harriett Bertetto of Canton,; four nieces, Stephanie, Diana, Julie, and Jackie; and three nephews, Roger, Terry and Michael. Margaret had been a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Havana and it’s Ladies Aid group. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother who lived for her family. They will cherish memories of many delicious meals she prepared, as anything she cooked was always the best. She made sure that her house was in order every day and always remembered to say her prayers at night. At age 60, Margaret earned her first driver’s license, passing both tests on her first try. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 3 at Davison-Fulton Woolsey Funeral Home in Pekin with the Rev. Dan Bishop officiating. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana at 2 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
