Catherine “Cathy” Despo Adkins

Catherine “Cathy” Despo Adkins, 86, of Chandlerville passed away on December 25, 2017 at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia. She was born on January 2, 1931 in Alton to Gust and Mary (Davis) Maggos. On October 16, 1949 in Alton she married Stoney Adkins. He preceded her in death in 2006. Cathy is survived by 2 children: Rocky (Becky) Adkins and Nancy Adkins, both of Chandlerville; 1 grandson: Taylor Adkins of St. Louis, MO; and a step-grandson: Andy Wright of Colombia, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Mary Deborah, and grandson Nathan Adkins. She took up residence in Hawaii in 2006 after wintering there for 10 years prior. Cathy had a love for Hawaiian music. She was an excellent cook and loved feeding her family, and she also loved to do county and western line dancing. Cathy was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Chandlerville. She was a part of a woman’s club known as Home extension in Chandlerville. A special thanks is given to all the staff of Walker Nursing Home in Virginia for her exceptional care. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3 at Litner-Hurley Funeral Home in Chandlerville with Rev. Brian Lesemann officiating, burial to follow at Bethel Cemetery. A birthday celebration/visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, also at the funeral home, from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to Walker Nursing Home activity fund or Salem Lutheran Church.
