Charles Edward Lane

Charles Edward Lane, 68, of Bath, passed away at his home at 3:28 p.m. on Sunday, August 20, 2017. He was born July 14, 1949 in Bath to Clarence H. and Geraldine “Jerri” (Hobbs) Lane. He married Peggy France on June 22, 1991 in Petersburg. Mr. Lane is survived by his wife, Peggy, of Bath, three children; Sarah Lane-Mitchell of Havana, Charles E. Lane, Jr. of Springfield, Yvonne Long of Normal; eight grandchildren: Timothy, Dakota, Justyne, Malachi, Latrell, Jarith, Jack and Riley. Also surviving are seven brothers and sisters: Ruth A. Lynch of Gulfport, MS, Gertie ( companion – Robert Ross)Bubert of Mt. Vernon, Sally (companion – James Merwin) Brown of Havana, Debbie (Wayne) Prater of Cadet, MO, Doris (George) Peterman of Summum, Jack (Lori) Lane Jr. of Bath, Dale E. (Rosie) Lane of Havana as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, sisters: Nancy Jean Lane and Betty Hughes and brothers: Jerry Lee and John Paul Lane. Mr. Lane served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He worked for the US Postal Service in Springfield, Illinois, retiring in 2000. He was a fun-loving family man who never met a stranger. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He loved motorcycles, fishing, boating, picking the guitar, karaoke, shooting pool and traveling. Funeral services will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 with visitation two hours prior to the services. Burial will follow the services at Bath Cemetery. Rev. Ken Peterson and Rev. Wayne Prater will officiate. Burial detail will be provided by VFW Post #6408 and American Legion Post #138 of Havana.
