Charlotte (Char) Thompson

Charlotte (Char) Thompson passed away on September 18, 2023, at the age of 81 in Havana. Char was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her family and friends above all else. Char had a vibrant personality and was known for her warm and welcoming nature. The Filling Station in Bath and previously Yesteryears in Matanzas Beach, was a gathering place for many, where she built lasting connections with her customers. She had a passion for slow-pitch softball and excelled as a pitcher. Her water-fighting skills were unmatched, often outperforming firefighters in friendly matches. Additionally, Char had a beautiful singing voice and was well-known for her renditions of Patsy Cline songs. Drag racing was another one of Char’s passions, and she spent many hours at the drag strip. She even had the opportunity to work with the renowned Shirley Muldowney and won a few trophies during her racing career. Char started working at a young age at Boyd Brothers IGA, where she developed a strong work ethic and a can-do attitude that she carried with her to the end. In later years, Char worked for Hartung Family Farms, where she enjoyed travelling throughout the area to inspect and grade the harvested beans. Throughout her life, Char made significant contributions to her community. She served as a Lake County Board Member and was actively involved in Lake County politics. Char was also the Past-President of the Fox Lake Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and Grant Township Republican Club. Char is survived by her husband Bob, her daughter Brenda (Chuck) Fagan, stepsons Bob (Amber) Thompson Jr. and Justin (son Hank) Thompson, and her sister Donna Boyd. She is also survived by her cherished granddaughter Jackie (Tim) Reidy and great-grandchildren Jordan and Gavin Reidy. Char was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Lenore Boyd, and her son Jack Kiesgen Jr. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at The Filling Station in Bath. The details will be shared with family and friends as they become available. Char’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her zest for life, and her significant contributions to her community.
