    Astoria Community Blood Drive

    Astoria High School will host a community blood drive from 8:45 am to 1 p.m. on Monday, April 1 at 402 N. Jefferson St., inside Gym. To donate, please contact Garry Bastien at (309) 329-2156 or visit www.bloodcenterimpact.org and use code 1014 to locate the drive. Donor Eligibility Criteria: Potential donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 with parental permission form available through www.bloodcenter.org) and weigh more than 110 pounds. A photo I.D. is required to donate. For questions about eligibility, please call the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center at (800) 747-5401. Donors who last gave blood on or before 2/4/19 are eligible to give at this drive. About Blood Donation: Blood donation is a safe, simple procedure that takes about 45 minutes to one hour. Individuals with diabetes or controlled high blood pressure may be accepted as eligible donors. About MVRBC: Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center is the provider of blood and blood components to more than 90 hospitals in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin. In your area, MVRBC is the exclusive provider to Graham Hospital, OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

    Jerry Strauman Open Wrestling Tournament

    Wrestlers from all over the state will be in Havana to participate in the Jerry Strauman Open Wrestling Tournament. Wrestler weigh-ins are from 7-8:30 and wrestling will start at 9:30 a.m. Spectators are encouraged to come to the Havana Junior High Gymnasium to watch some great wrestling and participate in the 50/50 raffle and other raffles. The concession stand will feature Casey’s pizza, subs, and donuts. All proceeds will benefit Havana and Manito wrestling programs.

    Tot Time: Trees

    Adults and their tots will have fun exploring, discovering, and learning on the first Thursday of the month in the Museum’s Discovery Center.  Spend quality time with your tot, while each of you makes new friends.  A different topic and craft will be featured each month. Registration is not required and admission is free.  Participants will enjoy light refreshments.  The program begins promptly at 9:30 a.m. with the program portion lasting approximately thirty minutes followed by crafts, snacks, and time to explore the Museum.

    On April 4th, participants will learn about the importance of trees and their role in nature.  Tots and their caretakers may enjoy helping to plant several native Illinois trees on the Musuem’s grounds and a “tree” craft to take home.

    The 2019 Tot Time program series is sponsored by Spoon River Electric’s Operation Round-up grant, Canton Chamber of Commerce, Havana National Bank, Lewistown VFW Post 5001 Auxiliary, Rusty Melhouse of Edward Jones, and Jeff and Linda Sisson of Havana.  The Tot Time program series continuously seeks sponsors.  Please contact Curator of Education Christa Christensen at 309-547-3721 for more information.

    Nature Walk for Health Series

    5:00 pm-6:30 pm

    Join us on the fourth Thursday of the month at 5:00 p.m., April-October, to walk in nature and learn about our local environment.  Fun wildlife stories and facts are sure to be plentiful!

    Locations will vary and may be dependent upon weather conditions.
