  • MidAmerica National Bank plans Canton Fireworks Fundraiser Cookout

    MidAmerica National Bank has announced that their annual Canton Fireworks Fundraiser Cookout will be held Friday, June 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at their 100 W. Elm Street location, in the garage next to the parking lot. The public is invited to enjoy a pork chop sandwich with chips and a drink for $5 or a hotdog with chips and a drink for $3. A drive-thru lunch line will be available on the southwest corner of the bank. Every dollar brought in will benefit the Canton Fireworks Fund.     The Kilbourne Fire Department will sponsor an Antique Tractor Pull on June 16 at 10:00am in Kilbourne. The event will be held at the ball diamond, located on the north side of town. The firemen will be preparing pork chops sandwiches for lunch. Ag of the Past pulling rules and classes will be observed. The event is a fundraiser for Kilbourne’s 150th event scheduled for 2020.

  • HHS Shooting Clinic

    Havana High School will be hosting NBA/NCAA College Shooting Coach David Nurse for a boys and girls Shooting Clinic on Thursday, June 21. The clinic is open for any student entering grades 5th through 12th. HHS Boys Basketball Coach Tyler Southwood would like to invite students from surrounding school districts to participate in this great opprotunity. Nurse is a former Western Illinois University graduate and men’s basketball player who has been working with many NBA and NCAA college players the last several years. Nurse has worked as the shooting coach for the UCLA Bruins men’s basketball program and has had previous stops as the shooting coach for the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, as well as working with many other top NBA and NCAA players. Coach Nurse will work with boys and girls on shooting, basketball IQ, playmaking, and other fine parts of the game of basketball. The clinic has been broken into two sessions. Session one is a youth session for players entering grades 5th – 8th and is from 9 to 11 a.m. The second session is for players entering entering grades 9th – 12th and is from 11:30 a.m. to 2p.m. Cost of attending the clinic is $40 per player. Players interested in attending the clinic can pre-register before the clinic with Coach Tyler Southwood by email to reserve a spot, or register by arriving early on the day of the clinic.     Make a “splash” for the SRC Relay for Life Team

    The Fulton County Relay for Life’s “Festival of Hope” will be held Saturday, June 23 in Jones Park, downtown Canton. There will be lots of activities, including a dunk tank.

    The Spoon River College Relay for Life Team’s honored “dunkee” this year will be SRC Community Chorus member and SRC Foundation Director Colin Davis. He will be in the dunk tank representing the SRC Relay for Life team from 5:30 to 6 p.m.

    Show your support by spending a few bucks and hopefully dunking the director a few times! You are also welcome to pay a little extra to use the big dunker.

    Also, a $5 youth bracelet includes T-shirt, balloons, bounce house play, and Snocones

    Here is the full schedule for the Festival of Hope:

    –4 p.m.: Official Start

    4 to 8 p.m.: Food by JoJo’s Wagon (starting at 4:30 p.m.) as well as treats by Princess Creations and Black Maple drinks

    4 to 6 p.m.: Music by The Road Less Traveled

    4 to 8 p.m.: Silent Auction in the gazebo

    5 p.m.: Opening Ceremony, Team Recognition and Sponsor Recognition

    5:30 to 7:30 p.m.: Balloons by The Unique Twist

    6 p.m.: Survivor Ceremony, Survivor Lap and Reception

    6:20 or so to 9 p.m.: Music by Time Machine

    6:30 to 8:30 p.m.: 40&8 Rides

    9 p.m.: Luminaria Ceremony, with the playing of bagpipes

    9:45 p.m.: Closing Ceremony
