Bowling Fundraiser

Bowling Fundraiser to help Illinois Ability Sports “Movies in the park.” At the Paddlewheel Havana il.

$125 for a 5 person team includes 3 games of bowling, shoe and ball rental and pizza. Donations for the local food pantry can also be dropped off at the event. Contact havanalodge88@gmail.com or pm Havana Masonic Lodge #88 on Facebook. Call or text 217-341-5409 please respond by January 4th .

UofI Extension - Tazewell County Office

Join University of Illinois Extension January 16, 2018 from 1p.m. to 4p.m. at their Volunteer fair.  The volunteer fair will be held at the Tazewell County Office located at 1505 Valle Vista Dr. in Pekin. Get information about the Master Naturalist program and learn about many nature related volunteer opportunities found in Fulton, Mason, Peoria, and Tazewell counties. Midwest Central Screening: Children ages three through five

Midwest Central School District #191 will conduct a free screening Friday, January 19th, for children 3-5 years old who reside in the Midwest Central School District. The screening will be held at the Primary School in Manito. This screening is to identify pre-school age children who have delays in any of the following areas: cognitive, physical, communication, adaptive, social/emotional (behavior) or who may benefit from an early childhood program. Children will be screened by appointment only. Please call Lisa Foust at 309.968.6464 to schedule an appointment. Feel free to call with any questions. If you aren’t sure if your child should be screened, give us a call and we can discuss your concerns.

Did you know glaciers contributed to the formation of the Illinois River Valley? Learn about how the last Ice Age shaped the present-day landscape.

Meet at the Therkildsen Field Station at Emiquon, 11316 N. Prairie Road, Lewistown, to begin the hike through The Nature Conservancy’s Emiquon Preserve.  Information will be presented by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services’s and Dickson Mounds’ staff.  Participants must dress appropriately for the outdoors, provide their own drinks and snacks, and be able to hike comfortably with an elevation gain and across uneven terrain.

 

The program is free and is sponsored by the Emiquon Partnership.

Havana Public Library District will be hosting a Teen Movie Night on January 26.

This event is for ages 14 to 19, and will be starting at 7 p.m. and ending at 11 p.m.

Snacks and games will be provided. Participants will be given the opportunity to help decide what movie to watch.

Havana First United Methodist Church

The Havana First United Methodist Church will resume their monthly Community Friendship Meal on Saturday, January 27th  from 11:30am to 12:30pm.  There is no cost or obligation to members of our community – we just want to provide an opportunity for persons to get together for good fellowship and good food!  There are no age, income, or any other restrictions whatsoever.  This meal is open to persons of all ages – just come as you are and enjoy a free meal with other members of our community!  This month our menu is pork roast, sauerkraut, green beans, baked potatoes and cake.  For more information, you may contact the church at 309-543-4725.

Dickson Mounds

Dickson Mounds Museum is hosting the annual Winter Gathering on Saturday, January 27. Participants may enjoy storytelling, drum music, and traditional dancing from 1 to 4 p.m. A pipe ceremony honoring the ancestors will also be held outdoors in the afternoon. Vendors will be open with a variety of hand-made crafts and objects for purchase from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lunch featuring traditional Native American fry bread will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free; however, donations are appreciated. Registration is not required.

Grandpa's

Havana FFA Alumni would like to welcome you to a Dinner Auction on Saturday, January 27th at Grandpa’s Restaurant in Havana. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with a buffet style meal at 6:00 p.m. consisting of ham, roast beef, au gratin potatoes, green beans, side salad, roll, and desert with drink options of coffee, tea, and water. The auction will take place following dinner.

Tickets are available for purchase at Grandpa’s, Sloan’s Implement, Stelter Hofreiter Inc., Fornoff Fertilizer, and Perkins Seed for $20. Items up for auction: Seed Packages, iPad Air, Chainsaw, 3 credit hours coupon from Spoon River College, Webber Kettle grill, coolers, handmade crafts, tools, AGSense Field Commander, 160 Acre Grid Mapping, 2 Gary Allan Concert tickets, toys, household items, ladies items, and many other miscellaneous items.

Proceeds from this event will help fund Havana High School Agriculture Students and Programs by way of scholarships, materials, and FFA expenses.

Havana Church of the Nazarene will be hosting a free movie “King’s Faith” on Saturday Jan 27th and Sunday Jan 28th at 6 pm each evening  at the Lawford Theater.

The movie follows the life after Brendan King’s life spiraled to rock bottom, the teen found hope in a new relationship with Christ while serving time in a juvenile penitentiary. Recently released from prison, Brendan finds solace in the foster home of a couple struggling with suppressed grief. As the city-bred teen enrolls at a suburban high school, he finds support from a group of believers. Yet the bonds of his old way of life—and the gang that wants to know where he hid their stash on a long-ago night—are strong. In his darkest moment, Brendan found faith. Now he must decide if it’s worth the price to hold on to it.

Cuba High School

Cuba High School Student Council will sponsor an Ironman Volleyball game Saturday, January 27 at 7 p.m. at the Cuba High School gymnasium.

Spectators are asked to donate $1 for admission. All proceeds will be donated to the Spoon River College Habitat for Humanity Chapter.

Lewistown High School

The Lewistown Junior High/Senior High Booster club will hold a soup supper on Monday, January 29th at the Lewistown High School Cafeteria. Serving will begin at 5:30pm (prior to the JV Lady Indians game) and will conclude at half time of the Varsity Lady Indians game. Senior Lady Indian basketball players will be recognized at this game.

Chili Soup and Vegetable Soup, a Hot Dog, and drink meal will available for $5. Individual items also will be available for sale. There will be a bake sale. The soup supper is sponsored by the LCHS/JHS Booster Club. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
