Shirley Ann Santarelli

Shirley Ann Santarelli, 76, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at her home. She was born February 3, 1947, in Lincoln, the daughter of Elvin and Joyce (Garrison) Singley. She married W. Thomas Santarelli on May 8, 1971, in Springfield. Survivors include her husband, Tom; two daughters, Jennifer Santarelli of Springfield and Charlotte (Michael) Brockman of Tallula; two granddaughters, Emily and Haley Santarelli; great-granddaughter, Lenore Santarelli; brother, J.D. Singley; one nephew; and four nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents and half-sister, Bonnie Dudley Price. After graduating from Eastern Illinois University in 1969, Shirley turned to a life dedicated first and foremost to home and family while also working in various positions in business and education. Working with special needs children was especially important to her. Shirley was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Through the years, she belonged to several genealogical and historical societies, as well as the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, researching her family history, an interest she pursued for over 30 years. Though she grew up on a farm in Mason County, she was never much of an outdoor person, except when tending to her flower garden. Her passions in life, music, reading and history – never wavered. She loved her music loud, her reading varied, and history accurate. But most of all, she loved her family. A private graveside service will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Riverton Public Library.
