Stephanie Jane Hall Schoppe
Stephanie Jane Hall Schoppe (“Stef”) passed away at Galloway Ridge in Pittsboro, NC on May 16, 2023 from Alzheimer’s disease. She was 78 years old. Stephanie was born on September 1, 1944 in Dixon to her parents Joseph and Nadine Hall. She graduated from Havana High School and attended Colorado Women’s College. She was strong, brave, and vivacious, and lived a life full of adventure. She met her future husband Joachim “Jo” Schoppe while traveling on a break from college, moved to Germany upon his invitation, and took a job as a receptionist to learn German. Needless to say, she was fluent in no time and engaged shortly thereafter! Stef and Jo married in Richmond, Virginia on July 29, 1966. There they raised their two sons, Thomas and Marc-Andre’, and an honorary son Ove Jonson, who was an exchange student from Sweden. Stef was a generous and loving mother who had a sunny disposition that spread warmth and fun to everyone around her. She always put her family first and strived to make everyone around her happy. She worked as a travel agent, which enabled the family to visit Germany regularly and experience other travels as well. Stef and Jo became avid sailors and spent many weekends on the Chesapeake Bay; they eventually built a house in White Stone, Virginia. Stef became active in the Rappahannock Art League, exhibiting her watercolors in their gallery. She was well known for her colorful, happy fish paintings. She also loved music, clogging and square dancing. She lived her life in full color, embracing experiences as they came her way. In 2013, she moved to Galloway Ridge and spent her last 10 years in Marc’s family’s loving care. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Kim Schoppe; her son Marc Schoppe and daughter-in-law Lindsay Vail; five grandchildren: Sebastian, Zachariah, Gabrielle, Hailey, and Samantha; and her brother Jon Hall. She is preceded in death by her husband Joachim; her brother and sister-in-law Joe and Jan Hall; and her sister-in-law Linda Hall. Stef always wanted everyone to be happy. In her honor, we will have a memorial party, time and place TBD (email ForStef@nocares.com for details). In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund (curealz.org). Please express condolences at Legacy.com.
