Beryl L. Pokorny

Beryl L. Pokorny, 92, passed away at Sunny Acres Nursing Home on May 15. She was born on November 24, 1930, to Roy and Lena (Hahn) Sires in Dorchester, Iowa. She graduated from Oak Park Academy in Nevada, Iowa. She married Albert Pokorny on August 4, 1957, in Decorah, Iowa, and they moved to Havana in 1964. Beryl worked at Oney’s Foods and later at Mason District Hospital where she received the employee of the year award. Beryl was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Havana, a member of 6408 Havana VFW Auxiliary, and a member of the P.O.L.K. of A. Club. Beryl and Bert enjoyed many years of Polka dancing together. Beryl was preceded in death by her husband and her eight siblings: Goldie Rocksvold, Pearl Ehde, Sylvia May, Opal Britain, James Sires, Sardius Sires, Roy T. Sires, and Emerald Grahlman. She spent her later years enjoying time together with her friend, Jerry Neteler. She is survived by her four sons, Reggie (Debra), Joe (Susie), Rick (Amanda), and Dan (Brenda), grandsons Reggie Pokorny, Patrick (Melissa) Pokorny, Tom Pokorny and Brock Pokorny, several step grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the Countryside staff, Sunny Acres Nursing Home staff and Hospice for the wonderful care that Beryl received during her time there.
