Bernice Cathyrin Simmermaker

Bernice Cathyrin Simmermaker, 92, of Petersburg passed away at 10:49 a.m. on Tuesday, December 20 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg with her family by her side. She was born February 19, 1930, in Bath to Gordon and Bertha (Staging) Hardin. Bernice grew up in Kilbourne on her family’s farm. She attended school in Bath and received her Nursing Degree from Illinois College. She married Loren Simmermaker on September 1, 1953. She loved being a nurse, the farm where she grew up and her family. She was fond of horses and animals. She was soft spoken and enjoyed taking trips with Loren. Bernice is survived by her three sons, Gary Simmermaker of Kilbourne, Darrell (wife Tina) Simmermaker of Springfield, and Roger (wife Gladys) Simmermaker of Orlando, Florida; her grandchildren, Cate, Bethany, Andruw, Dakota and Faithe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loren, on November 10, 2015. A private family graveside will be held at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia with Pastor Rob Gallion officiating.
