Dorothy Louise Jacob

Dorothy Louise Jacob, 97, of Green Valley, passed away on December 2 at Mason District Hospital, Havana. She was born October 21, 1925 near Lincoln, the daughter of John and Orena Pfau Gockel. Orena passed away in 1926 and John later married Katherine Wilmert. Dorothy married Melvin Jacob on September 10, 1950 in Lincoln. He preceded her in death on April 23, 2011. She was preceded in death by one infant son, Richard Jacob in 1959. She had one sister, Florence Trepel, who also preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Pamela Johnson of San Jose, Sandra (Barry) Gager of Sedalia, CO, Mark (Kelly) Jacob of Green Valley, and Mary (Ron) Gilman of Maroa. There are seven grandchildren: Ben and Kate (fiancé, Eric Berghoff) Johnson; Erin, Austin and Ethan Gager; and Sarah (AJ) Petersen and Julia (fiancé, Mitch Juchems) Jacob. There is one great-grandson, Sawyer Petersen. She is also survived by niece Barbara Swarthout and nephews, Don and Terry Trepel. Dorothy graduated from Lincoln High School in 1942 and attended Lincoln College. She worked at State National Bank in Lincoln until her marriage to Melvin. Dorothy worked alongside Melvin on the farm. She also was a member of the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, volunteered at San Jose Grade School, and served as a Girl Scout Leader. She was a long-time member of St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln. The visitation will be held at the Maas-Hurley Funeral Home, 301 S. Washington St.in Manito on Sunday, December 11 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 12 at St. Luke Lutheran Church (15757 N County Road 3600 E, San Jose) with Pastor David Jacob officiating. Interment will follow in the Mason City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to San Jose Volunteer Fire Department (210 S. Second Street, San Jose, IL 62682), or donor’s choice.
