Joseph E. “Joe” Powley

Joseph E. “Joe” Powley, 84, of Morton, formerly of Easton, met his Savior face to face on Saturday, October 15. Joe was born on December 28, 1937, in Peoria, to Clarence and Catherine (Ginder) Powley. He grew up in the Peoria area. On December 18, 1959, he married Linda Ziegele in Galesburg. Together they had three children, Gigi (Scott) Schafer, Christy (Terry) Allen and Mark (Nicki) Powley; 10 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Patricia and Tena; one brother, Clarence Michael; and two great grandchildren. Joe graduated from East Peoria High School. He attended Bradley University and the University of Illinois before starting his career in the construction industry. Joe worked for C.A. Powley Company and was also co-owner of Midwest Foundation. In 1978, he was able to fulfill his dream of farming, while also operating Powley Sand & Gravel. He retired to farm full time in 1993. His greatest loves were his family, his Lord and his country. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 22 at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, with Scott Schafer officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, October 21 and from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. prior to the service on Saturday, both at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton.
