Roger Dean Laurent
Roger Dean Laurent, 78, of Manito, passed away at 1:06 p.m. Thursday, April 7 at Marliere Hospice Care Center at New Port Ritchie, Florida. Born November 25, 1943 in Pekin to Harry Eugene and Norma Jean (Rupp) Laurent, he married Saundra L. Stovall on October 2, 1962 in South Pekin. She survives. Also surviving are three children, Cristy (Keith) Lane of Green Valley, Roger Laurent, Jr. and Kimberly (Doug) Abbott, both of Manito; eight grandchildren, Lauren (Chris) Mach of Indianola, Iowa, Selena (Rick) Browning of Orange, California, Kelson Willett of Oklahoma City, Patrick (Megan) Laurent of Topeka, Carly (Austin) Haddock of Pekin, Lainee (Ben) Nickerson, Michael (Kelsi) Lane and Michaela (Jordan) Abegg, all of Manito and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son-in-law, H. Daniel Willett. Roger was retired from Keystone Steel & Wire Company in Bartonville with 34 years of service. He enjoyed people, loved making wine and taking cruises. He was an excellent artist and enjoyed singing karaoke. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. Roger was a member of Community United Methodist Church in Manito. He also was a member of the Elk’s Lodge in Aripeka, Florida and the Moose Lodge in Hudson, Florida. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 14 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Steve Oaks will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral.
