Duane O. Himmel

Duane O. Himmel, 78, of Topeka, passed away at 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 24 at Villas of Hollybrook – Reflections, in Springfield, where he had resided for the past year. He was born July 8, 1942, to Orville and Louise (Jurgens) Himmel. He married Wanda Danner on July 15, 1972. She preceded him in death on April 23, 2015. Mr. Himmel is survived by one nephew, Scott (Sheryl) Budke, of Chatam, and one niece, Katie (Peter) Vasvil, of Waukesha, Wisconsin; step-daughter Karen Danner of Rushville; and step-grandson, Keith DeMoss, of Rushville; two great-nephews; one great niece; sister Marilyn Budke of Havana; and one brother, Nelson Himmel of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister, and one step-grandson. Duane farmed his whole life, raising hogs for many years. He also worked at Mason County NRCS. He belonged to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, in Havana; Mason County Farm Bureau, Mason County Pork Producers, and Mason County Irrigated Growers. He was a member of the Air National Guard. Graveside services will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery, in Havana, on Friday, December 11, at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Mason County Pork Producers.
