Elias “Eli” Bennett Schultz, 2, of Springfield passed away at 6:24 p.m. on Sunday, September 6 at the Children’s Hospital of St. Louis. He was born on December 5, 2017 in St. Louis, beloved son of Dustin and Rachel (Sarff) Schultz. Eli is survived by his parents, grandparents Darell and Rosanne Sarff of Chandlerville and Liz (fiancé Greg Albert) Schultz, great-grandparents Morris Bell of Bath and Sara Dunham of Galesburg, Uncle Eric (Andi) Sarff, and cousins Mac and Brecken Sarff. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Robert Schultz and great-grandparents Doris Bell, Morris and Dolores Sarff, Wilbur and Lillian Schultz, and Wes Dunham. Eli was born with a congenital heart defect that he bravely fought through multiple procedures. Eli was an inspiration to all who knew his heroic story. During his brief visit on earth, he enjoyed listening to music, snuggling his kitties, and being held close by his family. Eli was loved by all who met him and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana on Saturday, September 12 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. A private family service will be held afterwards. Pastor Roger Grimmett will officiate.
