Marilyn Verla Oest, 91, of Havana, passed away at Em’s Haven of Rest, in Havana, at 6:37 a.m. on Friday, May 8. She was born February 9, 1929, in Bath, Illinois, to Joseph M. and Verla Mamie Louise (Meegge) Connolly. She married Glen Oest on January 30, 1948, in Havana. He survives. Mrs. Oest is survived by her husband, Glen, of Havana; two children: Tim Oest and Nancy (Gary) Blakely, both of Havana; four grandchildren: Aaron (Laura) Blakely of Clinton, Ellen (Kevin) Mibbs of Havana, Kimberly Oest of Seattle, WA, Anna Oest of Chillicothe; five great-grandchildren: Brittny Lindsey of Decatur, Josie and Jace Blakely of Clinton and Garrett and Skye Mibbs of Havana; as well as two great-great grandchildren: Kieven Redman and Jaxxon Lawson of Decatur. Also surviving are one brother, Stanley M. Connolly of O’Fallon, and one sister, Rose Edwards of Rock Island. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Joseph Allen Connolly, Jerald Connolly and Lyle “Sonny” Connolly, and one great-granddaughter, Jolie May Blakely. Mrs. Oest was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Havana. She enjoyed music and singing, as well as sewing. She liked to cook and bake pies for her family and friends. Private graveside services will be held at a later date at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Havana or Mason District Hospital.
