Gloria Jeanne Marshall

Gloria Jeanne Marshall, 86, of Topeka passed away at her home on Saturday, April 25 at 9:25 p.m. She was born on August 16, 1933 in Sangamon County, to Raymond and Grace (Bryant) Hickman. She married William John Millay, who preceded her in death. She later married James “Jim” Marshall on April 14, 1990 at the United Methodist Church in Granite City. Mrs. Marshall is survived by her husband, Jim, of Topeka; daughter, Tamara Ann Millay of Gainesville, Florida, and grandchildren Astel and Liam Millay. She is also survived by her brother, Richard Hickman of Springfield; sister, Karen (John) Friedrich of Topeka; niece Shannan (Andrew) Karrick and her children, Hadley and Hayden Karrick; and niece Laura (John) McGahan, and her children, Reid and Lane Andrews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband William, and brothers, Walter and Donald. Mrs. Marshall was a member of the Havana United Methodist Church and served as United Methodist Lay Speaker in Easton, Bath, Oakford, and Fairview. She taught at Midwest Central for 25 years and also did tutoring after school. She served as President for the Mason County chapter of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the American Legion Post 138 Auxiliary, and was a member and past President of the VFW Post 6408 Auxiliary and the 10th District Auxiliary. She served as Topeka Town Clerk for many years. Cremation rites have been accorded and a burial of ashes will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations can be left in Mrs. Marshall’s name to Havana United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #138 Auxiliary, or VFW Post #6408 Auxiliary.
