Sylvia Ruth “Grandma Sylvi” Earhart Heye, age 86, passed away quietly at her home, in rural Bath, at 8:56 a.m., on Friday, January 31, 2020. She was born to Kenneth and Mary (Haack) Earhart on May 29, 1933, in Aledo. She attended Havana Community High School, graduating in 1951. She married Vernon Heye on June 17, 1951. Mrs. Heye is survived by her husband of 68 years, Vernon Heye; two sons: Dale (Dana) and Don; grandson, Zachary Heye; granddaughters: Allison (Taylor) Walker and Morgan Heye, all of Bath and Havana; and great-granddaughter, Maddilyn Heye; sister, Rosemary Watson of Pekin and brother, Byron (Virginia) Earhart of San Diego, California. She is also survived by nieces and nephews. Mrs. Heye was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Bath, where she taught Sunday School, and was a chairwoman of the Ladies’ Aid Society for thirty years. She was on the election board at Bath, Precinct 1 for nearly thirty years. Mrs. Heye was a helpmate to her husband on their farm near Bath. She was known throughout the community for her excellent cooking and sewing talents. She helped sew or tailor many baptismal gowns and wedding dresses. Sylvia and Vernon enjoyed square dancing and polka dancing at the Oktoberfest and many locations. Funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Bath at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, February 4, with visitation one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow the services at St. John’s Cemetery. Rev. Brian Lesemann will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
