Rosemary Knowles

Rosemary Knowles, long time resident of Macomb and recently of Springfield passed away on October 3, 2019, in her home. She was born on May 25, 1931, in Havana to the late Otis and Ada (Hatton) Hughes. She graduated from Havana High School in 1949 and entered St. Francis School of Nursing. She married Harlan Specketer on July 25, 1952, and later married A.L. “Buck” Knowles on October 18, 1980. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother-in-law Joe Griffin, and nephew Tom Griffin. Surviving Rosemary are two daughters, Julie Rodgers of Springfield, Susan (Leroy) Angst of Peoria and one son, Kevin (Karen Herrman) Specketer of Lincoln; two step-sons, Steve (Eileen) Knowles of Macomb, John Knowles of Hillsboro, Oregon and one step-daughter, Nancy (Rich) Kucharz of Monmouth. Seven cherished grandchildren – Heather Rodgers, Heidi (Jon) Jacobus, Bart (Sarah) Rodgers, Lindsay (Robb) Craddock, Samantha (Rick) Auch, Tara (Dwane) Morris, and Josh (Nicole Derias) Specketer; eleven great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren, Amy (Knowles)Churchill of Morton; Nick (Liz) Knowles of Macomb; Michael Kucharz of Carbon Cliff; Elizabeth Kucharz of Monmouth; Ian Knowles of Portland, OR; 5 step-great-grandchildren and seven beloved nieces and nephews. One sister, Marte Griffin Woodward of Port Isabel, TX. She continued her career in nursing for 45 years. Mostly in the offices of Dr. Don Stehr in Havana and Drs. Tim Kling & Tom Koch in Macomb. Rosemary was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi, and belonged to Macomb Beautiful, Macomb Country Club, St. Francis alumni and St. Paul’s Catholic Church. She had been given an annual Macomb Beautiful award 3 separate years for her flower gardens. She and Buck met in Honolulu and continued their love of travel for many years, spending the winter months in South Padre, Texas. Rosemary loved to entertain, be with her family and host Thanksgiving. Funeral Mass will be held on 11 a.m. Wednesday October 9 at St. Paul’s Church in Macomb. Father Adam Stimpson will officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul School in Macomb.
