Chris E. Oney
Chris E. Oney, 62, of Havana, passed away at Mason City Area Nursing home at 4:47 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2019. He was born August 11, 1956, in Peoria, to Eugene and Sherry (Rapp) Oney. Mr. Oney is survived by three children: Rachel (Ben) Daniel of Mt. Pulaski, Jennifer Oney of Havana and Stephen (Rachel) Oney of Lincoln, as well as four grandchildren. Also surviving are five siblings: Ted (Lynn) Oney of Tampa, Florida, Scott (June) Oney of Granite City, Jeff (Diane) Oney of Mason City, Victor (Christina) Oney of Havana and Sheryl (David) Roos, of Havana, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, cousins, John Oney and Heather Smith, and one grandchild. Mr. Oney was a 1974 graduate of Havana High School. He later graduated from Monmouth College. He was a member of the Havana Optimist Club and a board member of the Mason County Housing Authority for over 25 years. He was also a long-time member of the Illinois Food Retailers Association. He worked for Oney’s Foods for many years until his health no longer let him. He enjoyed playing poker with his friends and watching football games with good friend Greg Griffin. Graveside services will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 11 a.m. Following the graveside services there will be a Celebration Gathering for family and friends at the United Methodist Church in Havana.
