James A. Samuell
James A. Samuell, 79, a resident of Clayberg Nursing Center in Cuba and formerly of Lewistown passed away at 6:45 PM Thursday November 15, 2018 at Graham Hospital in Canton. He was born April 24, 1939 at rural Ipava the son of Orley D. and Hazel (Guffey) Samuell. He married Barbara Weese on August 3, 1957 at Astoria. She survives along with three children, Jeff (Threasa) Samuell of Lewistown, Tim Samuell of Lewistown and Cindy (Tim) Smith of Florissant, MO; ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Lisa Bickel, one sister and two great grandchildren. Jim retired from Caterpillar after 30 years of service. He was a member of Crossroads Free Methodist Church in Lewistown and a member and union steward of the UAW Local 974. Jim was active in the community and had served on the Lewistown Carnegie Library Board, Lewistown City Council, Lewistown Fire Department, Spoon River Towers Board and had led a men’s bible study. Jim loved farming, tractors and spending time with his grandchildren. Jim never met a stranger and he loved people. Cremation will be accorded. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 24 at the Crossroads Free Methodist Church in Lewistown with Reverend’s Larry Wright and Carl Denham officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to his church. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown is assisting the family with arrangements.
