Delmar E. “Bus” McGinnis

Delmar E. “Bus” McGinnis, 93, of Mason City passed away on September 21, 2018. He was born August 30, 1925 in Minier to Clifford and Florence (Neville) McGinnis. He married Ruby Hornback. She preceded him in death. Delmar served his Country During WWII with the US Navy in the South Pacific. He served on the USS Blue Ridge under General MacArthur. Delmar worked for The Martindale Farm, just outside of Mason City, for 40 years. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, telling his grandchildren stories and all the facts of life. Delmar was proud to be the “Miracle Boy.” Delmar is survived by: his children Pearl Harfst of Forest City, Delmar “Sonny” McGinnis Jr. of Mason City, Peggy McIntyre of Springfield, Paula Tyner of Carterville, Pam Hill of Mason City, Penny Bailliez of Glasford and Patty Hardman of Lexington; 15 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and two sisters Betty Orndorff and Helen Burden, both of Pekin. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruby, sisters Bernadine Fryman, Margaret Stansberry, and Doreen Havens, and two brothers Clifford and Richard McGinnis. A Funeral Service will be held for Delmar Tuesday, September 25 at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City at 11 a.m. Visitation will be two hours prior, beginning at 9 a.m. Randy Justice will officiate. Interment will follow at Glendale Gardens in Pekin. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Mason City American Legion Post 496 or the VFW in Havana Post 6408.
