Betty J. Schad

Betty J. Schad, 90, of Havana, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 24, 2018, at 9:37 a.m., at the Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community in Chenoa, with her family by her side. She was born September 3, 1927, in St. Louis, MO to Creel and Bernice Shannon Kreeger. She married William R. Schad on March 4, 1945 in Kansas City, MO. He preceded her in death on August 9, 2000, after 55 years of marriage. She was preceded in death by brother, Robert and his wife Mickie Kreeger, in-laws Jack and Nelda Schad and Jean and Dean Batton and brother in law, LeRoy Davidson. Betty grew up in Kanas City, MO and began her banking career. During WW2, she worked at a bank in San Francisco, while her husband was deployed as a US Marine (Carlson Raider) in the South Pacific. Betty and Bill moved to Havana to raise their family in February 1946. Betty worked along side her husband in their dairy business. She worked for the Havana National Bank from October 1971 until her retirement in 1994. Mrs. Schad was a member of the Fuddy Duddy group for many years and volunteered as a Pink Lady at the Mason District Hospital in Havana. She was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She will be greatly missed by her children: William R. “Rusty” Schad Jr. of Havana, Diane Schad of Moline, Kenneth Schad (Eileen Truschke) of Chicago, Jim Schad (Judy) of Gordon, WI, Pat Schad of Chatham, Peg Schad (Donna Deany) of Bloomington, Kath Simmering (Kent) of Port Orchard, WA, and Beth Smith (Jon) of Bloomington. Grandchildren, Andrea Schad of Springfield, Lesley Lamphier (Trent) of Moline, Sarah Rice (Jason) of Prior Lake, MN, Katie Giulliano (Jerry) of Crystal Lake, Justin Schad (Theresa) of Okinawa, Japan, Hunter Schad of Ottawa, Doug Simmering of Milton,WA, Andrew Smith (Laura) of Downers Grove, and Cydney Smith of Nashville, TN. Great grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Treyton, Audrey, Isabella, Max, Ben, Parker, Carter, Sutton, Brooks, Jones, Xander, Declan, and Lucy. Siblings: William (Dottie) Kreeger of Indian Head, MD, Gayle Davidson of Independence, MO, and Richard (Carol) Kreeger of Redmond, WA; sister-in-law Margaret Schad of Tampa, FL; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Her family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, August 29, at Hurley Funeral Home, 217 North Plum Street, Havana. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 30, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 545 South Orange Street, Havana with Fr. David Whiteside officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded after services and burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Havana.
