Vince Eugene French, 71, of Bath passed away at 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. He was born on November 3, 1946 in Springfield to George Provine French Sr. and Lucille Crouch French. He married Lois Elizabeth Nall on September 6, 1969 at Kilbourne Baptist Church. Vince was preceded in death by his parents, brother George Provine French Jr., sister Joanne French Jestafie, and brother James French Sr. He is survived by his wife, Lois, brother Terry Fairclough, sister Linda (Fairclough) Theole of Cantrell, brother Ernie Cox of Springfield, and Andrea Cox of Bethalto. Vince was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Chandlerville. He served for 3 years in the U.S. Army as a tank mechanic. He was awarded the Purple Heart in 1971 and two Bronze Stars. Vince was employed at Caterpillar in Mossville for 31 and a half years as a cylinder honing machinist before becoming a minister. He became an ordained minister on November 28, 1999. He served to shut ins at home and area nursing homes for 14 years. He was also song leader at Bethel Baptist Church and served as pastor of the First Baptist Church in Virginia for four years. After retirement he was a very good witness. Vince enjoyed art and music. He was an avid Elvis fan and loved the Chicago Cubs. A visitation was be held on Monday, June 11 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Chandlerville. Funeral services were held immediately following the visitation at 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church. Rev. Mike Hopps officiated. Burial was held at Bethel Cemetery in Chandlerville.
