Arthur Lee Shoemaker

Arthur Lee Shoemaker, 78, of Kilbourne, passed away at his home at 5:17 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2018. He was born July 18, 1939, in Jewett, MO, to Virgil L. Shoemaker and Delia West. He married Shirley Sielschott at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on June 28, 1963. Mr. Shoemaker is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Kilbourne; four children: Melinda (Tim) Hunsley, of Springfield, Mark Shoemaker of Bloomington, Mary Shoemaker of Petersburg, Wanda Vandeventer of Springfield; five grandchildren: Julie, Jessica, Brody, Ian and David; three great-grandchildren: Mylles, Madielynn, Ava; six siblings: Pete (Ruth) Shoemaker of Bath, Essie Degroot of Manito, Lily (Mike) Mibb of Kilbourne, Ruth (Mike) Richardson of Havana, Kenneth Shoemaker of Petersburg, Diana Lynn of Arkansas, as well as sister-in-law, Marilyn (Bill) Cotton. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Eddie and brother-in-law, Charles Degroot. Mr. Shoemaker was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church at Kilbourne. He worked for many years as a mechanic and shop foreman at Weekly and Sloan. He also worked and farmed for Don Friend for many years. In recent years, he enjoyed working at local farmer’s markets. Visitation will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church from noon until 2 p.m on Monday, May 14, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Monday, also at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Burial will follow the services at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Revs. Don Niesler and Delbert Penrod will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
