Edna Kastendick

Edna M. Kastendick, 79, of Mason City, formerly of Havana, passed away at Mason City Area Nursing Home at 1:50 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2016. She was born March 28, 1936 in Havana, to Orin and Verna (Boesch) Prince. She married Harold Kastendick on September 23, 1956 at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Matanzas. He preceded her in death on July 2, 2013.Mrs. Kastendick is survived by two sons; Dan Kastendick of Lincoln, IL, David (Louise) Kastendick of Texas, four grandchildren; Daniel (fiancé-Leah) Kastendick of Lincoln, Diana (Doug Knollenberg) Kastendick of Bloomington, Kate Jordan of Springfield, Joshua Jordan of Ohio and one great-grandson, Benjamin. Also surviving are one sister, Emily Haare of Havana and brother, Edward “Buddy” Prince of Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law Julie and three brothers, Walter, Charles and James Prince.Mrs. Kastendick was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Matanzas. After graduation from high school, she worked with the US Naval Department for one year. She later worked as a bookkeeper for her husband’s Mobil Oil trucking business. She also served as Church Secretary at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Havana for several years.Cremation rites have been accorded and graveside services will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Brian Lesemann will officiate.Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or Mason City Area Nursing Home – Resident Activity Fund.
