Robert Troxell

Robert Evert Troxell, 85, passed away February 1, 2016 at home surrounded by his loved ones, after a short but gallant fight against advanced lung cancer.  He was born October 7, 1930 in Cartwright Township, Sangamon County,  to Franke and Betty Mae (Thompson) Troxell.  He married Marilyn Schwend January 19, 1952 in Highland, Illinois.
Robert is survived by his wife of 64 years,  Marilyn; his daughter Debra (Jay) Hayes of Mapleton, IL; his three sons; Robert A (Carol Eilers) Troxell of Beardstown, IL, Mark S. (Barbara Metzger) Troxell of Havana IL, and Randy L. (Deborah Williams) Troxell of Springfield, IL; 12 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 17 great- grandchildren, and 7 step great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.   Robert was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward Troxell and Richard “Lynn” Troxell; two sisters, Louise McHenry and Della Justice.
Robert proudly served his county in the United States Air Force.  He was employed early in his career as an aircraft mechanic at McDonnell Aircraft in St. Louis, MO, and retired from Ideal Industries in Petersburg, IL., as a machinist.  He was a lifetime member of Petersburg American Legion.  He was an avid reader, and especially enjoyed anything about things of a historical nature.  He enjoyed gardening, especially planting tomatoes to feed an army, and the tulips he planted to make Oakford beautiful in the spring.  He also enjoyed wildlife, and birdwatching. 
Funeral services for Robert will be held Friday, February 5, at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg at 9:00 a.m.  Burial Procession to Camp Butler Cemetery in Springfield will immediately follow.  Visitation will be on Thursday night, February 4, 2016 at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg 4 to 7 p.m..  Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Home Hospice.  Online condolences may be left for the family at http://www.hurleyfh.com/.  Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg IL is assisting the family with arrangements.
